Education Advancement and Licensure Opportunity for Paraprofessionals Interested in Special Education

Utah Valley University has developed a 2 year program designed for working paraprofessionals to obtain a Special Education Professional Educator License. Courses would be in the evening or during the summer to accommodate working paraprofessionals and scholarships are available.

Are you an experienced paraeducator who would like to earn your special education teaching license?

At UVU School of Education you can:

  • Earn a Special Ed License in 2 years–taking courses in the evening and summers.
  • Earn up to 25 course credits for your prior experience.
  • Scholarships available!

To begin the program you need to have completed your general education requirements and/or have an associates degree. If you are close we can help you figure out how to complete the rest of your classes.

  • ENGL and MATH QL (Math 1050 or Math 2000) courses must have a grade C or higher.
  • GPA of 2.7 or higher
  • General Education and Pre-program coursework
  • Grade of B- or higher in pre-program courses (Math 2010 and 2020 courses C or higher)
  • Pass LiveScan Criminal Background Check
  • Additional courses that you may not have taken: AUTS 250G, MATH 2010, MATH 2020 (these are math for teachers courses). Contact us ASAP so we can help you take these courses right away.
