Special Education Summer Conference FlyerReminder to register for our Jordan School District Special Education Summer Conference 2025

The Special Education Summer Conference for the 2025-26 school year will be held on Monday, Aug. 4 at Mountain Creek Middle.  Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., and the conference begins at 8 a.m.  Attendees will receive a $200 stipend, and lunch will be provided.  Administrators are also welcome to attend.  There will be sessions specifically for Administrators throughout the day.

All Certified/Licensed Special Education staff and school administrators are invited to attend.  Please register through PD Catalog by July 31.

PEHP has been migrating their membership to a new system for some time.  Jordan School District will be one of their last groups going onto their new system.  Your current PEHP ID number starts with 1741000.  You will be receiving a new PEHP ID card early August and your new number will start with "M" and will be effective September 1, 2025.

We have had several members contact us because their providers office is adamant that they need to provide them with a new ID number.  If this happens to you, please make them aware that you will be moving to the new system effective September 1, 2025 and will provide them with your new card once you receive it.  They can also contact PEHP directly to confirm this information.  It is very important that once September 1st is here that you are presenting the new card whenever you receive services.  If you don't, it is going to create billing issues and the payment of your claim will be delayed.  This needs to occur at the pharmacy as well.  If you use your old card after August 31 it will show that you no longer have coverage.

July 2025 Health Insights NewsletterPreventing Cancer Through Wellness
Eight healthy behaviors can go a long way toward improving your health and lowering your risk of many cancers–as well as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and osteoporosis. Small changes can have a big impact.

  1. Maintain a Healthy Weight - Keeping a healthy weight can be hard, but it has health benefits, including lowering the risk of 13 different cancers.
  2. Exercise Regularly - While it’s not always easy to find the time, fitting in at least 30 minutes of activity every day can make a difference.
  3. Avoid Tobacco - Tobacco causes many types of cancer, along with other serious problems. If you smoke or use smokeless tobacco (like chewing tobacco, snuff or snus), quitting is one of the best things you can do for your health.
  4. Eat a Healthy Diet - Focus on fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and keep red meat and processed meat to a minimum. It’s also important to cut back on saturated and trans fats, and choose healthy more often.
  5. Limit Alcohol - Drinking alcohol can increase the chances of developing six different types of cancer. Zero is best; just ó to 1 drink a day can increase the risk of breast and colon cancer.
  6. Beware of UV Radiation - While the warm sun can feel great, too much exposure to its ultraviolet rays can lead to skin cancer, including melanoma. Tanning beds can be just as harmful. Skin damage starts early in childhood, so it’s especially important to start using sun protection at an early age.
  7. Practice Safe Sex - Sexually transmitted infections–like human papillomavirus (HPV), hepatitis, and HIV–can cause a number of different cancers. Practicing safe sex can lower the chance of getting a sexually transmitted infection. Talk to a healthcare provider for more information on vaccination that can help lower your risk of developing cancer.
  8. Get Screening Tests - There are a number of important screening tests that can help protect against cancer. Some of these tests find cancer early when it is more treatable, while others can actually help keep cancer from developing in the first place. Check with your health care provider to see what screenings are available to you.

Safe EmailWith the District's increased investment in Google this year, Information Systems is simplifying our email security. We are returning to the previous Google SPAM folder setup. The Proofpoint End User Digest system will no longer be used.

Effective July 24, your SPAM/bulk mail will be directed to the SPAM email folder in your main Gmail interface. This means that emails identified as potential SPAM will go directly to your Gmail SPAM folder, rather than being held in a Proofpoint quarantine.

What Happens to My Proofpoint Rules?
Unfortunately, any rules you created in the Proofpoint End User Digest will not transfer to Gmail. If you need to adjust how Gmail identifies SPAM, you will need to modify or create rules directly within your Gmail settings.

Recommendations
Please review your Gmail SPAM folder after July 24 to check for any important emails. Make sure to update your Gmail filter settings as needed to manage SPAM effectively.

Salt Lake BeesJordan School District and the Salt Lake Bees are once again joining forces to show appreciation to all JSD employees by offering free tickets to an upcoming Bees game at the beautiful new Ballpark at America First Square in South Jordan. This year you have three nights to choose from; Wednesday, August 6, Thursday, August 7, or Friday, August 8.

We are coming down to the end of the 2025 open enrollment period and there are a few important changes this year.  Take a minute and review the Open Enrollment Changes letter attached or watch the video that can be found on the Insurance Services webpage.

We have also created some Spanish Open Enrollment materials.  We now have the employee guide as well as an open enrollment recording.

If you would like to set up a time and not have to wait, please contact us 801-567-8146 / insurance@jordandistrict.org.  Our office gets very busy as it gets closer to the end of open enrollment.  We want to be able to spend as much time with you as necessary, but it isn't possible the last few days. Please attempt to complete your open enrollment and get all of your questions answered as soon as possible.

Jordan Credit Center is seeking to fill positions for Physical Education, Financial Literacy, and Health courses. Instructors are needed immediately in asynchronous virtual courses for original credit, grade replacement credit, and credit recovery. Number of instructors will be based on fluctuating student enrollment. Only internal JSD candidates will be considered. Accepting only current licensed, contracted educators. A new research study showed that a healthy, balanced diet was linked to superior brain health, cognitive function, and mental wellbeing. The study, involving researchers at the University of Warwick, sheds light on how our food preferences not only influence physical health but also significantly impact brain health.

The dietary choices of a large sample from the UK Biobank were analyzed along with a range of physical evaluations, including cognitive function, blood metabolic biomarkers, brain imaging, and genetics–unveiling new insights into the relationship between nutrition and overall wellbeing.

2025-26 Insurance Open Enrollment PosterWe are halfway through open enrollment and we hope you have all of your questions answered. If not, there is one more meeting you can attend.  It will be held Monday, June 2 at 3 and 4 p.m. in the Herriman High Media Room.

You are always welcome to contact JSD Insurance Services, 801-567-8146, insurance@jordandistrict.org, with any questions.  We are located at the District Office and are here from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Please don't wait until the last week of Open Enrollment because it gets very busy and we want to spend as much time with you as necessary.

Please note that open enrollment ends on Sunday this year.  It would be very beneficial if you could have your elections completed prior to Friday, June 13.

Please review this information if you are benefit eligible but have healthcare through the Marketplace and receiving a subsidy.   If you currently work for Jordan School District and are benefit eligible, you DO NOT qualify for subsidies through the Health Insurance Marketplace.  Please read the attached form, Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage Options and Your Health Coverage, for detailed information.  Now is your chance to elect coverage with the District during open enrollment (May 15 - June 15).  If you have taken advantage of subsidies, please contact a tax advisor for guidance on amending your taxes if necessary.

Required literacy trainings for elementary teachers are now available for registration for new teachers and teachers moving to a new grade level. If a teacher is moving grade levels and has already taken any trainings, they DO NOT need to take them again.

To register for these trainings go to pd.jordandistrict.org. Trainings can be found by searching for the titles or clicking on the direct links below. Please be sure that all new teachers are aware of the different training that they will need for their grade level and the dates that they are being offered. These are currently the only offerings for these classes this year. New teachers should sign up for one date for each training listed under the grade level they will be teaching.

In-service rate will be paid for Heggerty, MSRC, and Wit & Wisdom classes taken outside of contracted hours. Substitutes will be provided for all classes taught during contracted hours. A stipend of $600.00 will be paid to teachers for the completion of the in-person and online book work for LETRS training.

  • For UFLI Pilot Schools K-3 teachers, contact your school's district literacy specialist for links to in-person training sessions held on June 13th, July 20th, or August 6th. Teachers will receive a $150 stipend for attending.
  • For other schools using Really Great Reading in K-3, contact your school's district literacy specialist for online training. Teachers will be emailed a link and that training is completed online. A stipend $300 will be provided upon completion of Really Great Reading training.
