The JSD Teachers for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Team has created a monthly newsletter. The full newsletter for this month can be found at the link below. Stories include:
I Can Do It: Students with an IEP - IEP’s will address any areas where a student is not on grade level with their peers. Otherwise, you can assume that they can do any of the work your regular ed students can do, including being called upon to participate in classroom activities.
I Can Do It: Students with a 504 - Providing accommodations for these students allows them to do the same work as other students in your class.
Best Practices - Ask DHH students open-ended questions. Ask DHH students to repeat instructions. Interpreters are not their partners. Help DHH students self-advocate. Special privileges shouldn’t be given on the basis of hearing status. Only one ‘speaker’ at a time and identify who it is.
